Backups & Restore

Learn about automatic daily backups, manual snapshots, and how to restore your site.

Overview

Every Sitery site includes automatic daily backups at no extra cost. Backups include your entire site - files, database, and configuration. You can also create manual snapshots at any time.

Automatic Backups

We automatically back up your site every day. These backups are:

  • Complete - Includes all files and the full database
  • Retained for 7 days - We keep the last 7 daily backups
  • Stored securely - Backups are stored in separate object storage
  • One-click restore - Easily restore any backup from your dashboard

Manual Snapshots

You can create manual snapshots before making significant changes to your site:

  1. Go to your site's dashboard
  2. Click on "Backups" in the sidebar
  3. Click "Create Snapshot"
  4. Add an optional comment describing the snapshot
  5. Wait for the backup to complete

You can keep up to 5 manual snapshots per site. When you create a new snapshot and already have 5, the oldest snapshot will be automatically deleted.

Restoring from Backup

To restore your site from a backup:

  1. Go to your site's "Backups" page
  2. Find the backup you want to restore
  3. Click "Restore" and confirm
  4. Your site will enter maintenance mode during the restore
  5. Once complete, your site will be back online

Important

Restoring a backup will replace all current files and database content. Any changes made since the backup was created will be lost.

What's Included in Backups

Every backup includes:

  • Core files - The complete installation
  • Themes - All installed themes
  • Plugins - All installed plugins
  • Uploads - Media library and uploaded files
  • Database - Complete MySQL database dump
  • wp-config.php - Your site configuration

Best Practices

  • Create a snapshot before major updates - Before updating core files, themes, or plugins, create a manual snapshot so you can easily roll back if something goes wrong.
  • Create a snapshot before making significant changes - If you're about to make major changes to your site's content or configuration, create a snapshot first.
  • Verify backups periodically - Occasionally restore a backup to a staging site to ensure your backups are working correctly.
  • Keep important snapshots - Use meaningful comments for your manual snapshots so you know what state the site was in when the backup was created.
